This small provincial town has a long history. Since the time of the Hittites, a fortress stood here. In the 10th century, a citadel was established here by Sultan Alaeddin, which is still the main city monument. A little to the south is the Alaedin Mosque with an interesting striped facade, and below there is a covered street market – Bedestin.

At the foot of the hill on which the fortress stands, there is the Senghur Bey mosque. Due to the nature of the finish, many call it"gothic".
