Rating: 7,5/10 (100 votes) The complex was built in the 2-5 centuries AD, but it became a monastery only in the 11-13 centuries, when Christians came here and turned some living rooms into cells and churches. In the monastery you can see three churches: Geyikly, Balyky and Yuzyumlyu, - as well as a mosque, a mill, several more churches and household and residential buildings. People inhabited the caves until 1952. Only the threat of collapse of the vaults forced the residents to move to other places. In 1967 this monastery was given the status of an open-air museum.
