Rating: 8,3/10 (521 votes) Virmajarvi is a small lake lying on the state border of Finland and Russia. In 2008, the lake was the most eastern point of the European Union on the continent.
The lake is located in the Russian border zone, just to the west of the line of engineering and technical wire fences, so access to it is either extremely difficult or practically impossible. On the Finnish side, the lake is also in the border zone, but it is very easy for the Finns to get access to the lake. Quite often tourist groups visit this attraction. There is also a memorial wooden sign on the Finnish shore of the lake.
