Rating: 8,8/10 (9133 votes) St. Lambert's Basilica is a Catholic church, and the oldest building in Dusseldorf, which includes many religious and cultural attractions. In the 8th century, Saint Willeick founded a small chapel dedicated to the Bishop of Maastricht at the confluence of Dussel and the Rhine. Unfortunately, nothing has survived from the first religious building in Dusseldorf. In the 13th century, a Romanesque village church was erected on the site of an old chapel. In 1288, after the village of Dussel was granted city status, the church began to transform into the center of the new city, but already as a monastery building. Currently, the following works of art can be observed in the church: miraculous images of the Virgin – `` Maria ambulance '' and 'Mary the Victor', the Gothic Tabernacle, the tombstone of William the Fifth, the sarcophagus of Apollinarius of Ravenna, the main portal, the Calvary with the image of the Crucifixion of Christ.
