The Church of St. Cyclia is one of the most famous pilgrimage Catholic churches in Dusseldorf. The church is also the center of Catholic activity in the Dusseldorf-Benrath district. The building of the church, built on this site, is not the first in a row. During the last major construction, a stone was discovered with an inscription indicating that this stone was laid in the altar of the church in 1005. In 1250, a second church was laid. It was small in size, had three chapels and was made in the Romanesque style. The low-rise three-story bell tower was built separately from the building. For almost the entire history of its existence, the church was Catholic, and only in 1609-1616 – Protestant. In 1821-1822, the building was reconstructed, during which its side-chapels were expanded. At the beginning of the XX century, in On the site of the old temple, a new neo-Gothic church was erected, including a bell tower with a clock. The author of the project was the architect Wilhelm Zultenfuss. Some church items were transferred from the old church to the new church - – a baptismal font was placed in the narthex, in the altar – A crucifix decorated with figures of the Apostle John the Theologian and the Virgin Mary. The main attraction of the church is the image of the Black Madonna. A small chapel was added to the temple especially for the icon.
