Burgtor Gate is a fringed black and red bastion that in the 15th century provided the only natural access in northern Lubeck. The gate was erected in 1444. In 1685, the high, pointed roof was replaced by a curved Baroque crown. From both sides of the gate, you can still see the preserved parts of the city wall dating from 1320. Burgtor Gate among others the monuments of the old part of Lubeck are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
