Photo and description

The Holstentor city gate is located on the island. They were built by Hinrik Helmstede in the years 1466-1478 according to a Flemish project. This structure with two massive round towers is the symbol of the city of Lubeck. In the gate towers there is a museum of the city's history.

At the other end of the Old Town, there is another gate - Burgtor. They were built a little earlier - in 1444. The final baroque part of the gate was built much later, in 1685. Five floors of the tower are decorated with the same rows of windows, but different numbers. This gate was the only land entrance to Lubeck.
