Dr. Martin's Hospital in Croatia, Rovinj spa
Rating: 8,5/10 (400 votes)  Dr. Martin Hospital is a renowned hospital complex nestled in lush green gardens. The hospital was opened on May 22, 1888. Originally, the building of the current hospital housed the Maria Teresa naval sanatorium. Children from many European countries visited the sanatorium for treatment and rehabilitation. The place for the sanatorium was not chosen by chance. The climate, fauna and flora were carefully studied. Studies have shown that Rovinj has a fairly good microclimate, and the decisive factor in the creation of a sanatorium in this particular place was that there were no malaria epidemics in the city, in contrast to the city of Pula and the island of Brijuni (19th century). At the beginning of the 20th century, the sanatorium was redesigned, and the building began to house the Vienna City Hospital, which later became the focus of orthopedic surgery.
