Basilica Julius, located at the Roman Forum, was previously a meeting place for the Roman Senate, and there were also trials, mainly property and inheritance proceedings. The basilica also housed the money-changers' shops, and the inscribed fields for games were preserved on the floor.
The temple was erected in 54-44 BC. Gaius Julius Caesar on the site where the Basilica of Sempronius used to be. In 12 A.D. restoration work was carried out in the building, in the same year the building was consecrated. During the reconstruction, the basilica was decorated with marble.
In 283, during a strong fire, the basilica was badly damaged, but was soon restored.
