The Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine is the largest building ever built in the Roman Forum.

The basilica was laid down by Emperor Maxentius in 308 and was completed Constantine – successor to the emperor, in 312. The basilica was built on the site where the spice warehouses were located. The nave area exceeded 4,000 m 2, and the height of the vaults was about 39 meters. The walls inside the building were tiled with marble slabs and the floor was decorated with colored marble.

A colossal statue of Constantine was housed in the western apse. The basilica was not only a hall for the worship of gods, but also a place for business meetings, and the city council also met here.
