The church is an octagonal structure, erected on the site of an ancient pagan temple in the VI century. The church has a notable aspid mosaic dating from the 6th century and a Florentine dome built in 1454. In 1705, the exterior of the church was decorated, under the direction of Carlo Fontana. At present, the Church of San Teodoro is the national Greek temple of Rome and the titular diakonia.
