Photo and description

Gomel State Circus is the oldest and favorite entertainment venue in Gomel. The first wooden circus appeared in the city back in 1890. It was built on Horse Square (on the site of the current Central Market) by businessman Slobodov. This circus existed until 1917.

A new circus building was built in 1926, but in 1932 it was transferred to the theater. At the very beginning of the war in 1941, this building burned down. After the war, only the Shapito circus came to Gomel. Today's Gomel State Circus was built in 1972. The first performance took place on December 2, 1972. In appearance, the Gomel circus resembles a flying saucer. It received its "space" forms due to the amphitheater of the auditorium, designed for 1544 seats. The lower rectangular floor of the building houses the lobby, cupboards, wardrobes and service areas. In the courtyard there are additional service buildings for the menagerie.

There are 5-6 programs for the circus season. The season lasts from September to May.

The circus has a unique fountain equipped with colored lighting at night. The fountain was opened after reconstruction in 2006. From May to September, you can admire the unusual performance of the “dancing fountain.”

At the entrance to the circus, there is a monument to the famous clown Pencil and his inseparable dog, the Scotch Terrier Klyaksa. The monument was opened on June 1, 2006. The height of the Pencil corresponds to the real height of the artist - 1 meter 57 centimeters.
