Photo and description

The Bridge of Peace is one of the modern architectural landmarks of Tbilisi. The bridge was erected in May 2010, but despite its young age, it managed to gain immense popularity.

The Bridge of Peace is very unusual. From a distance, it is a transparent steel-glass structure, which resembles a huge fishing net that spans across the Kura River. The total length of the bridge is 156 m, and the width is 5 m. It connects the old part of Tbilisi with new districts - it looks like two different eras are connected.

The bridge with a canopy of glass structures, made in a style very similar to high-tech, was designed by Italian architect Michele de Lucchi and French lighting designer Philippe Martin. An interesting system of illumination was built into the structure of the Peace Bridge: in the evening and at night, every hour, 30 thousand lamps in Morse code show a message that can be seen on the two parapets of the bridge. The message is composed of the names of chemical elements from the periodic table that make up the human body.

The construction of the Peace Bridge in Tbilisi caused a very strong excitement among the residents of the city. One half of the population of Tbilisi was against the construction of this unusual modern building near buildings of ancient architecture. And the second half of the city dwellers were not against changing the architectural appearance, believing that the bridge would become a new hallmark of their city.

Today, the Peace Bridge is one of the grandiose buildings in the capital of Georgia in recent years. This unusual architectural structure symbolizes the path from the past to the future, conveys Georgia's determination to move towards changes that will help it become one of the leading European countries.
