Photo and description

In 1744, a vineyard was built here, located on six ledges of an artificial terrace, divided in the middle by a staircase. Frederick II chose this place for his summer residence. Sanssouci Palace, like the vast gardens around it, was designed by the architect Knobelsdorf.

Hardly two years have passed since the laying of the first stone, when, under the leadership of Knobelsdorf, work began on the interior of the palace. Almost a century later, Ludwig Persius and Ferdinand von Arnim completed the side wings. A characteristic detail of the palace - in the central part of the first floor there are ceremonial rooms, in particular, the Marble Hall, the royal chambers, a music salon and a study bedroom.
