Photo and description

The monument to the great commander G. Zhukov in the city of Yekaterinburg was erected in 1995. The grand opening of the monument was timed to coincide with the half century anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany. The monument is located in front of the headquarters of the Ural Military District.

Funds for the construction of the pedestal were sorely lacking, so the idea to erect a monument to the marshal remained at the development stage for a long time. The process got under way when the first sponsors appeared with the idea of creating the so-called “Marshal Zhukov Fund”. After a while, funds gradually began to flow. The sponsors were not only Ural enterprises, but also ordinary citizens. Money transfers came from Moscow, Kazan and many other cities of Russia. Thus, a substantial amount was collected, however, the inflation that came in 1992 depreciated the accumulated funds.

Then the regional administration decided to hold a charity event. For this purpose, special tickets of voluntary donations were printed at the Perm factory of the State Sign, on which G. Zhukov was depicted. As a result, the necessary amount of money was collected, after which work began on the creation of the structure.

The authors of the monument were architects G. Belyakin, S. Gladkikh and sculptor K. Krunberg, who had been working on the creation of the composition for more than four years. They decided to immortalize the marshal with a bared blade on a reared horse. On the commander's tunic, you can see two awards. However, such a structure was rather unstable, which is why the construction of the monument was not carried out for a long time. Then the masters of "Uralmash" decided to remake the hollow structure of the monument into a monolithic one, without a steel frame, and nevertheless brought it to life. The total height of the monument is about seven meters.
