Photo and description

The monument to the literary hero of the famous novel by H. Wells "The Invisible Man" in Yekaterinburg is located in the very center of the city, near the V. Belinsky Library.

The monument was installed in 1999 and is timed to coincide with the festival "Cultural Heroes of the XXI century", which was organized with the support of the Gelman Gallery. The project was sponsored by the director of the Regional Scientific Library of V. Belinsky - Nadezhda Tsypina.

The monument to the Invisible Man is a kind of symbol of hopeless loneliness, it looks simple, touching and witty. The monument is a bronze slab measuring about one meter by one meter. On the monument you can see the engraving "The World's First Monument to the Invisible Man, the Hero of H. Wells's Novel", as well as two footprints of different sizes. The foot prints actually belong to two people. The left (43 foot size) - to the writer and author of the idea E. Kasimov, and the right (41 size) - to the artist A. Shaburov.

According to the authors, the monument was conceived and made in just a week. E. Kasimov noted that the monument to the Invisible Man is actually dedicated not so much to a literary hero as to the tragedy of incomprehensibility and loneliness. Using phones, modern gadgets and the Internet all the time, people just walk past each other without noticing anything. Contemporaries practically do not write real and good letters, they have stopped reading real books and are much less likely to meet with friends. And it is the monument to the Invisible Man that, like never before, reflects the essence of the present time.

The monument has not yet received worldwide fame, but this did not prevent him from becoming one of the most memorable sights of the city of Yekaterinburg. The creators of the unusual monument to the Invisible Man believe that he should get into the Guinness Book of Records.
