Photo and description

The Ural Geological Museum is the pride of not only the city of Yekaterinburg, but the entire Urals. Located at the intersection of Kuibyshev and Khokhryakova streets in a four-story building, the museum shows its visitors how rich and unique the nature of this region is.

The museum was opened in August 1937. Its history began with a small exhibition at the Ural House of Technology, the main purpose of which was to demonstrate the mineral and ore resources of the region. The further fate of this exhibition was decided in January 1938, when it, together with the four-story building, was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Sverdlovsk Mining Institute.

Mining and geological Ural enterprises participated in the creation of the museum exposition, thanks to which the Geological Museum received the status of one of the best regional museums in the world. Over the years of its existence, hundreds of thousands of visitors have been able to get acquainted with the exposition of the museum, among whom were the largest scientists, famous Soviet and foreign statesmen, cosmonauts, military leaders, artists, writers, students, schoolchildren.

Today the Ural Geological the museum is one of the largest mineralogical museums in the country. Unlike other museums of this kind, the Ural Museum presents underground riches of exclusively Ural origin, and not of the entire globe or the country.

Currently, the museum has about 40 thousand amazing exhibits, but its permanent exhibition there is only about one third of the collected stone wealth. The rest are hidden in numerous funds. Behind each of these exhibits lies the hard and painstaking work of many people.
