In 536, after the victory over the Ostrogoths, the Byzantine army entered the city through these gates under the command of the commander Belisarius. The two surviving round gate towers were built later. On the gate, you can see the remains of a facade made of travertine and two rows of small windows. At the end of the 11th century, the gate was partially destroyed, and in 1408 it was closed, but soon it was reopened through it motion.
