During the reign of Sultan Bayazid II, the fortress underwent reconstruction. In the 17th century, during the war, the fortress was captured and completely destroyed. In the 18th century, the fortress was completely restored. Until 1833, a military garrison was located here. Today, the fortress functions as an Archaeological Museum, which displays things and objects found during excavations in the ancient city of Eritrai. The fortress also houses open theater, which becomes the stage for the International Music Festival every July.
