Karmilas is a city founded in 1700, located at the foot of the Taurus Mountains.
The city was originally inhabited by residents from Greece. At the end of the First World War, and then the subsequent Greek-Turkish War, the government of both sides decided against exchanging local residents in order to save innocent people from repression. As a result, Karmilos had to provide housing for 30 thousand Turks who were almost forcibly expelled from Greece.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the city was completely abandoned.
Today, more than 3 thousands of houses in a dilapidated state, just like fountains and churches. The ruins of the city, not even a hundred years old, nowadays look like buildings of the ancient era.
