Rating: 9,3/10 (7336 votes)  The Egyptian Museum is housed in a neoclassical building. It contains the world's largest collection of Egyptian art. It includes about 150 thousand items that are associated only with the Egyptian civilization. A unique exhibit is exhibited in one of the halls of the museum – burial mask of Tutankhamun. Its weight is – 11 kilograms, it consists of precious stones and pure gold. In general, the museum has more than a hundred rooms, each of which contains a huge number of works of art. The museum in Cairo was initiated by a small collection of treasures, which was collected in 1858. In 1902, the collection was moved to the building where it is located to this day. At the entrance to the museum there are huge sculptures of Pharaoh Amenhotep and his wife Tiya. The treasures of the tomb of Tutankhamun are also kept here – the only known unbroken tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh. The treasures were so large that it took about five years to transport them to the museum. An exhibition of Egyptian mummies was recently opened. The mummies of Seti I, Thutmose II, Ramses II and other pharaohs are exhibited here. The microclimate in the display cases fully corresponds to the microclimate in the Length of the Kings.
