Attractions and entertainment

Dar es Salaam is one of the most interesting cities in Tanzania in terms of architecture.

You can start from the very railway station building enumeration of the attractions of this city. The building was built by the Germans after the First World War, the architecture of the Dar es Salaam station is similar to that in the current capital Dodoma.

Not far from the station is the magnificent Clock Tower, which is the central construction in the assembly of government buildings.

Almost adjacent to the embankment, stands the Askari memorial - a sculptural composition created in memory of those killed in the First World War. The memorial is a four-sided column with bas-reliefs depicting scenes of battles, and this column is crowned by a monument to a soldier holding a bayonet rifle.

From the port and the monument to the victims of the war, a beautiful embankment stretches for several kilometers, which has collected both old buildings and modern buildings. Of the modern buildings, City Hall should be noted - a modern business center that brings together business people from all over the world. Probably, only here in all of Tanzania you can meet so many people of European appearance, and hear the speech in English.

In addition, along the embankment there are two Christian shrines of Dar es Salaam. Cathedral of St. Joseph - a beautiful temple, built in the best traditions of the late Gothic. It is the main Catholic parish of Dar es Salaam. Also not far from the Catholic Church is an Anglican Church named Azalea Front.

Of the cultural institutions of the city, it is worth mentioning the National Museum of Tanzania. This museum has existed since 1940, it was founded by the British crown, and its main exposition was items related to the colonial history of England. By now it is not just a museum, but a whole museum quarter, consisting of a dozen small buildings,   each of which has its own exposition.

The city also has a huge botanical garden, which presents all types of plants growing in Tanzania. The entrance to the botanical garden is free for everyone. Among the cultural objects of Dar es Salaam, it is worth noting the Art Gallery of Newmba i Sanaa, which contains both canvases brought from European countries and paintings by local artists.

Shopping enthusiasts should definitely visit two of Tanzania's largest markets located in Dar es Salaam. This is the Cariaco market - you can buy almost everything there, Cariaco has collected the traditional features of Arab bazaars, numerous stalls of merchants with fruits, spices, clothes and the results of the work of artisans. Some craftsmen make goods right in front of customers.

The second most important market in Dar es Salaam is the Mzizima Market, aka the Fish Market. A very specific place that can knock down an unprepared tourist at least with its smell, however, despite the stench and an abundance of pickpockets typical for a fishing place, Mzizima can attract those who are interested in buying shells, pearls and other jewelry raised from the bottom of the sea. Of course, here you can also buy fish, the most varied, in the most varied quantities.

City beaches are highly not recommended for swimming. There are several reasons: lack of rescuers, lack of any equipment, and extreme pollution   nearby waters. All those wishing to relax on the beach go to the countryside, which provides a number of small hotels with their own dedicated piece of the beach, swimming pools and great service. Each of the hotel complexes can be reached by taxi, the trip will cost about 20 thousand shillings.
