This mosque is also called the Alabaster Mosque. She is in Cairo, in the Citadel. It was built in the period from 1830 to 1848 at the request of Muhammad Ali Pasha. He erected it in honor of his eldest son Tusun Pasha, who died in 1816.

The mosque was named 'alabaster'. because the wall cladding is made of alabaster.

The Muhammad Ali Mosque is original and fun. It was built under the direction of Yusef Boshn, an architect from Turkey. He took the St. Sophia Church of Constantinople as a model.

Near the western facade are cylindrical minarets made in the Ottoman style. Inside, the church is decorated in the Turkish Rococo style.

The mosque is illuminated by various crystal chandeliers and glass lamps, which are located so so that they form circles.

The courtyard of the mosque is surrounded by galleries with domes and columns of marble. In the middle of the courtyard there is a fountain for ablution before prayers. To the west of the fountain there is a clock tower with a clock made of openwork copper. Their French king Louis-Philippe presented Muhammad Ali in 1845 for the obelisk now located in Paris at Place de la Concorde.
