The mosque was built in the period from 1853 to 1854 in the architectural style `` Baroque ''. The architect Nigoos Balyan was instructed to build a mosque by Sultan Abdul-Majid I. Like many other similar structures built during the reign of this sultan, the mosque includes the personal quarters of the sultan and a harem. Inside, the Mecidiye Grand Mosque is decorated with pink mosaics. The windows (tall and wide) let in plenty of sunlight and the prayer niche is carved out of marble.
