Mecidiye Great Mosque in Turkey, Istanbul resort
Rating: 7,5/10 (300 votes)  The Mecidiye Great Mosque (Ortakoy) is located in the Ortakoy district of Istanbul, near the Bosphorus Bridge. The mosque was built in the period from 1853 to 1854 in the architectural style `` Baroque ''. The architect Nigoos Balyan was instructed to build a mosque by Sultan Abdul-Majid I. Like many other similar structures built during the reign of this sultan, the mosque includes the personal quarters of the sultan and a harem. Inside, the Mecidiye Grand Mosque is decorated with pink mosaics. The windows (tall and wide) let in plenty of sunlight and the prayer niche is carved out of marble.
