Topkapi Palace (Seral)   was considered the main palace of the Ottoman Empire until the middle of the 19th century. The name of the palace, translated into Russian, means `` cannon gates ''. Topkapi Palace is located on the Cape of the Spit of the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus Strait, in the historical center of Istanbul (in   Sultanahmet district), not far from the famous Hagia Sophia.

The palace building covers an area of over 700   000 square meters, for wall, the length of which exceeds 1,400 meters. The principle by which the palace is built is called the principle of four courtyards, arranged inside a large wall and separated from each other.

The central (main) gate is called the Gate of the Lord and leads to the inner first courtyard, inside which the utility rooms are located. The second gate is called the Gate of Greetings, entering them, the visitor enters the office and the room where the treasury was kept. The Gate of Bliss leads to the third courtyard. In the third courtyard there is a harem and inner chambers, in which there are special rooms for conducting training sessions. In the fourth courtyard, you can see the pavilions of Mecidiye, Revan, Sofa, as well as the Bashlal tower. There is also the Sofa Mosque and other premises, including a pavilion for traditional circumcision of boys.

Topkapi Palace is one of the most interesting museums in the world, the museum's exposition has over 65   000 exhibits, and this is only a small part of what kept in the museum's storerooms.
