From the 2nd century on the site of the city of Nassenfels was the village of Vikus Skutarenzium. After the foundation of Fort Vetoniana, the village was abandoned, and during the Hungarian invasion (X century) the defensive ramparts were demolished. In the Middle Ages, Nassenfels was the seat of Bishop Eichstat. Since the XIV century, the castle has been expanded. Bishop Konrad II von Pfeffenhausen and Frederick IV von Oettingen applied forces and means to this. In 1699, the office of the bishop's treasurer was erected on the territory of the castle by the architect Jacob Engel. The lands were later secularized.
