The first mention of this castle dates back to 800, when the village of Irmelshausen was transferred by the abbess of the monastery in Milz to the county of Genneberg. Half a century later, the village became the property of the bishopric of Wurzburg. In 1376, Berthold von Biebrich purchased the castle to make it his family home. In 1854, a global reconstruction of the castle was carried out. Irmelshausen – the only castle that was not damaged during the Peasant and Thirty Years Wars. The family archive kept in the castle from the 16th century was not damaged either. Only once did the enemy cross the threshold of the castle – in May 1945, American troops were here.
