Weltenburg Monastery – Bavarian monastery of the Benedictine order, located near the town of Kelheim on the banks of the Danube.
The oldest monastery in Bavaria was founded by Irish or Scottish monks in 617. They were sent by Saint Columban from the French monastery of Luxuy. A new temple was erected by Saint Rupert in 700 in Weltenburg. Later, the monastery was rebuilt and completed many times. The Church of St. George, built by the Azam brothers in 1716-1739, took center stage.
During the secularization in 1803, the monastery was closed. In 1842 Weltenburg was rebuilt as a priory of the Metten Monastery. Since 1858 he was in the Bavarian Congregation of the Order of St. Benedict,
