A small but elegant and very beautiful building that complements the park ensemble of the New Garden is the Gothic Library. The idea of its construction, as with a number of other buildings, belonged to Frederick Wilhelm II. The building, executed in the Gothic architectural style (which is well understood from the name), was supposed to serve as a repository of the king's personal collection of books, which was very extensive.

The construction of the Gothic Library was carried out from 1792 to 1794. Externally, this building is a two-story tower, inside of which there are two rooms, and outside you can see an open gallery and arches with patterned decorations along the top. The library was renovated in 1993-1998, in time for the 1000th anniversary of the city of Potsdam.
