Bavarian Forest National Park & ndash; Germany's first national park. Opened in October 1970, significantly expanded by 1997. Its area today – about 25 thousand hectares. Together with the Czech National Park, the Bohemian Forest, the Bavarian Forest forms the largest forest area in Central Europe.

The main part of the park is located thousands of meters above sea level and is surrounded by mountains. In the east, it borders on the Sumava National Park, whose area reaches about 70 thousand hectares.

The unique fauna of the area is preserved in the national park. The park is inhabited by such rare species of animals and birds as lynx, peregrine falcon, wood grouse, black stork, forest cat, otter, beaver, common wasp eater,
