The park is located on the western shore of Lake Pielinen and occupies the territories of the municipalities of Joensuu, Kontiolahti, Lieksa. In the center of the park is the Koli hill.
In winter, Koli National Park becomes one of the most popular ski resorts. Tourists from the European part of Russia mostly rest here. The ski slope at Ukko-koli is the highest in all of southern Finland.
