The Kunsthalle is a state art museum displaying works of predominantly French, German and Dutch painters of the last seven centuries. Today the Kunsthalle is one of the oldest museum buildings in Germany. The construction of the picture gallery was started in 1836 and finished in 1846. The author of the project was the architect Heinrich Hubsch. The museum collection began with the so-called 'Cabinet of Painting', which belonged to the Margrave Caroline-Louise of Hesse-Darmstadt. The main museum building houses a permanent exhibition containing more than 800 sculptures and paintings. The collection includes works by German masters of the Renaissance and late Gothic, French and Dutch painters of the XVII – XVIII centuries, as well as German sculptors and artists of the XIX century. Also in the museum you can see the works of Hans Thom, who was the director of the Kunsthalle in 1899. The museum's greenhouse contains works by more modern authors such as Manet, Pissarro, Corinth, etc. We also recommend reading State Academy of Arts in Germany, Karlsruhe Spa Topic: Kunsthalle Art Museum in Germany, Karlsruhe Spa. |
