The palazzo was built in 1412, as evidenced by the inscription on the heraldic shield, which can be seen over the main entrance. In the 1920s, the Plazzo Vecchio was erected in the garden of the palace, similar in architecture to the Florentine Palazzo Vecchio. More recently, the palace housed one of the most popular nightclubs in the city – 'Sesto Acuto'. The main facade of the palace, standing on sheer wide steps, also serving as a natural foundation, deserves special attention. Previously, there was an open courtyard in front of the palace, from which only a portal with marble arches has survived to this day, decorated with bas-reliefs depicting the Roman emperor. During the Second World War, the palace was seriously damaged along with many other buildings in Taormina. At the end of the war, the building was completely restored. The architecture of the palace has Catalan features and many Spanish elements. We also recommend reading Castelmola in Italy, Sicily resort Topic: Palazzo Ciampoli in Italy, Sicily resort. |
