Rating: 7,5/10 (100 votes) Natural Park 'Nebrodi' located in the provinces of Enna, Catania and Messina. The total area of the park is 85.5 thousand hectares. The main feature of the Nebrodi Mountains – varied relief, asymmetric slopes, rich flora, as well as the presence of wetlands. The highest mountain in the reserve is Monte Soro, reaching a height of 1,847 meters. The park is home to pistachio and myrtle trees, euphorbia, maquis, cork oak, strawberries, holly and broom. The fauna is represented here by mammals, amphibians and reptiles, as well as 150 species of migratory and nesting birds. There are porcupines in the woods martens and wild cats, among reptiles – Balkan turtle and European pond turtle. There are also many interesting sights in the park. Particularly noteworthy is the Impallacchonata Castle, located at an altitude of 837 meters, which is the only graceful structure in the reserve, built of stone blocks. On the slope of Monte Soro, there is an artificial lake Maulazzo, created in 1980s. Another large lake in the park is Biviere. In the summer, because of the rapid blooming of algae, the lakes turn red, which is an amazing natural phenomenon.
