Vitosha National Park is located in the central part of southwestern Bulgaria, between the Rhodope and Stara Planina mountains. Territorially, the park occupies 27   000 hectares, of which 24   000 hectares belong to the forestry fund.

The national park is rich in water resources – streams and springs give rise to many rivers, the largest of which is the Struma. The park is also home to many stone rivers slowly moving through the valleys.

The main species of the park's flora is oak. There are also spruce, Scottish and Macedonian pine, and others. Fauna of the Vitosha Park very diverse – about 600 species of invertebrates, 12 species of reptiles, 50 species of mammals, 10 species of amphibians and approximately 150 species of birds.

On the territory of Vitosha; there are two national reserves – 'Torfeno Branishte' and `` Bystrishko Branishte. ''

Reserve `` Tarfeno Branishte '' geographically occupies 728.8 hectares. Here is the concentration of peat reserves. The thickness of the peat layer ranges from 60 cm to 2 meters, and the age is about 1000-1500 years.

Reserve `` Bystrishko Branishte '' geographically occupies 1   061 hectares. The reserve was established to protect the primary ecosystem of conifers. Since 1977 `` Bystrishko Branishte '' is under the protection of UNESCO.

Tourist infrastructure '' Vitosha '' pretty well developed – the park is visited by about 1.5 million tourists annually. Basically, most of the routes are concentrated in the northern part of the park, where the main ski slopes pass. There are two ski centers in the park & ndash; `` Konyarnika Windfall '' and 'Aleko'. Hiking, mountaineering, sports aviation, rock climbing and other mountain sports are also popular.

The park has the Duhlata cave, which is considered the longest in the country. The length of the cave is 17 kilometers. Duhlat is famous for its stalactite and stalagmite formations, rivers and reservoirs. Also interesting is the Boyansky waterfall, reaching a height of 15 meters.
