"Lake Preola and the Tondi pools" are a valley located between the towns of Torretta Granitola and Mazara del Vallo. The territory of the reserve occupies 335 hectares.
The entire territory of the valley is a karst depression in which, as a result of frequent rains, lakes were formed in the chalk soils. The most famous are the lakes Murana, Preola and three round reservoirs, called the Lower, Middle and Upper whirlpools, surrounded by limestone ridges and marsh vegetation.
The flora of the reserve is quite diverse, with the Palestinian oak, pistachio tree, holly and Dubrovnik. The best time to visit the park is spring, couple, when anemones, wild orchids, daisies and daffodils begin to bloom.
From the observation deck located at Lake Preola, an amazing view of the valley opens, as well as from here you can observe numerous bird species. It is home to such species of birds as red-nosed ducklings, rare white-eyed ducks, stilts, ibises, coots, wild marshes, etc.
Also in the reserve you can find the European marsh turtle, porcupine, rabbit and fox.
