Teatro Farnese is a Baroque court theater located on the second floor of Palazzo della Pilotta.

The building that houses the theater today was built in the first half of the 17th century. Aleotti became the author of the project. The theater hall consisted of two parts – scene-boxes with a backstage and an auditorium for four thousand seats. The large stage was equipped with alternating multi-layered curtains, the stage portal was decorated with pilasters, columns and sculptures located in niches.

The amphitheater was erected on a high rectangular plinth and consisted of 14 rows. Orchesta was surrounded by a balustrade at the height of the first floor. Behind the amphitheater there are two tiers of arches: in the first tier there are loggias, in the second – galleries.

In XVII – In the 18th century, theatrical performances were held in the theater, in the 19th century – it housed an art gallery, library and the Museum of Antiquity.

The theater was badly damaged during the Second World War, but was soon completely restored.
