The cathedral is located in the city of Angers in northwestern France. The temple is the main one in the diocese of the region.

The first buildings of the cathedral date back to the 11th century. A small church once stood on the site of the present temple, which burned to the ground during one of the fires that were a real disaster in the Middle Ages. By order of local bishops, the temple was founded, which later became a cathedral.

Since the 13th century, the temple has been decorated with stained glass windows, some of which have been preserved to this day and are considered world masterpieces of stained glass art.

Since the 19th century, the cathedral has been included in the list of national treasures of the French Republic. At the same time, the temple competed with another cathedral from the city of Amiens for the title of the repository of the shrine – head of John the Baptist.
