Cathedral of Saint Etienne – Cathedral in Toulouse, and remained unfinished. The construction of the cathedral took a period of time from the 11th to the 17th centuries, but due to lack of funds for the construction of the nave and choir were not completed.

The cathedral was created by joining two churches, both of which were also not completed. One of them was built in the 13th century and features a massive stained glass rose window. The second was started in 1271, but construction was stopped. In 1445, both unfinished structures were joined by a western portal in the style of a blazing Gothic. The building does not have a well-defined center: the builder took care of preserving

the baptismal chapel to the north of the main entrance. The tower of the cathedral combines elements of the Romanesque and Gothic styles.

The interior of the cathedral is as unusual as its exterior. The naves of the two main churches differ in their parameters and style. Most of the stained glass windows date back to the 19th century, and one was taken from the 13th century chapel of Saint Vincent de Paul, the oldest stained glass window in Toulouse. Of the 15 chapels of the cathedral, the oldest dates from 1279, and all the remaining ones were built in the XIV century. Shown here is a collection of 16th-17th century tapestries that illustrate the life of Saint Etienne. And in front of the cathedral there is the oldest fountain in France, it belongs to the 16th century.
