The green castle, located in Weimar's Democracy Square, is one of the most beautiful structures of the 16th century. The palace was erected for the brother of the duke, who ruled the city at that time, in the 1560s. In the 1760s, the castle was bought by Duchess Anna Amalia and turned into a library, which is now one of the largest in Germany. The hall, made in the Rococo style, deserves special attention. To visit the hall, you need to take care of tickets in advance. In 2004, a massive fire broke out in the palace, destroying a large number of books. The building was renovated for three years, after which the castle reopened its doors. We also recommend reading The Cathedral in Spain, Gerona resort Topic: Green castle in Germany, Weimar resort. |
