Belvedere Castle is a wonderful baroque building located on a hill in the south of Weimar.
Construction of the castle began in 1724 and ended in 1732. In 1756-1775, Duchess Anna Amalia used the castle as a summer residence. Until 1848, the palace was used by Duke Ernest Augustus of Saxony as a country residence and a hunting lodge.

The palace complex includes a central building with an observation tower and side domed pavilions. Currently, the premises of the castle houses the Weimar Art Collection, which includes faience and porcelain products, decorations, furniture and paintings of the 18th century.

A picturesque park was laid out around the palace. In 1748 the park was decorated in the French style, and later the park acquired the English style. The park contains a Russian garden, a citrus greenhouse, a labyrinth and a garden of shrubs.

Both the park and the castle are part of the wide Weimar landscape, which has been protected by UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1998.
