Kleber Square – the largest square in Strasbourg, named after the famous native, General Kleber. In the very center of the square, you can see a statue of a French military leader, at the base of which his remains are buried. Until the 17th century, the square was named after the less titled residents of Strasbourg – the poor. The Bosyakov square was almost the center of the old city and in reality was filled with poor people every day. The modern name of the square appeared only in 1840. General Kleber himself died heroically during one of the Egyptian campaigns of Napoleon's army in 1800. it took the French authorities about 30 years to agree on the erection of a monument in his honor, and in 1838, a statue with a piece of the remains of a war hero finally graced the central square of Strasbourg. Today, the square is a transport hub for the historic center of Strasbourg. The square's areas are divided into road and pedestrian zones.
