Rating: 8,4/10 (1902 votes) An early Gothic cathedral. The architectural style of the building also has features of the Romanesque style. The interior of the cathedral harmoniously connects these two directions. The cathedral is only part of the vast historical architectural ensemble of Bayeux. Several palaces, libraries and a number of other medieval buildings adjoin the building. The cathedral was built over 5 centuries, starting from the 11th century. Little has survived from the structures of that time, because they stood for several decades and burned down in a serious fire. A century later, the temple was rebuilt and the main towers began to be erected. The tallest spiers were not finally completed until the 15th century. The arches and marble colonnade create a bright yet soft light in the daytime. The crypt of the cathedral, preserved from the 11th century, is open to tourists.
