The Church of the Holy Sacrament is one of the original Catholic churches in Dusseldorf. In 1926, due to lack of space for believers in the Catholic Church in the Herdt area, the `` Holy Sacrament '' community was formed. In 1928, the community acquired a land plot for the construction of a new church. The project for the new temple was drawn up by Doctor of Arts, Professor Holzmeister. However, this project was never implemented due to the outbreak of the global economic crisis. In 1940, the Nazi authorities illegally confiscated part of the communal land. In 1941, a 'high bunker' was erected on the site to protect the townspeople from bombing. The author of the project was Philip Stang. During the Second World War, the temporary church was destroyed. Church services were moved to a barrack located next to the bunker. At the end of the war, Karl Klinkhammer became the parish priest of the church, who decided that it was better to create a church out of the bunker than to demolish the building and rebuild a new one ... Reconstruction works of the bunker were carried out in 1947-1949. In the course of the work, storey floors were removed, new windows were cut. The church was consecrated in October 1949. In the 1990s, the building underwent major renovations. The church houses many artistic treasures ... Particularly noteworthy are the high trachyte throne, the blued steel tabernacle, the font, the pulpit, frescoes over the side altarpieces, organ, bells, and numerous sculptures. In 2002, a new turn took place in the life of the temple – the building housed one of the painting exhibitions. Since then, various art exhibitions have been held in the church tower.
