The old cathedral was built between the 12th and 13th centuries. It is one of the most beautiful Spanish buildings of that time.

The main decoration of the Cathedral – this is his indoor arcade. It was built in the 12th century and was badly destroyed by an earthquake in 1755. It was restored in 1785, but almost nothing remained of the old Romanesque arcade. Among the surviving sculptures are sculptures by Alonso Berruguete, a Mudejar chapel containing the remains of the founder of the cathedral, and the Chapel de Santa Barbara, built in the 14th century. The doctoral candidates stayed there until they appeared before the examiners.
