The monumental cemetery in Milan is a real museum of sculptures in the open air.
In 1872, the first crematorium in the country was opened in the cemetery. In the central pavilion of Famedio, Alessandro Manzoni was buried. Local workers can tell many mystical stories about this crypt. For example, in 1959, during the restoration of marble, a shimmering cloud flew out from under the lid, and the ashes of the novelist, as it turned out, were absolutely undeterred.
A tour of the cemetery lasts about two hours .
