The founder of the monastery, dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, was Bishop Illyrion (founded - 1233). This monastery was chosen as one of its residences by the Zeta diocese. The generous gifts of the Serbian archbishops and kings of the Nemanjić dynasty greatly helped in the development of the monastery. However, it was in these places that many strategic waterways crossed, which served as the reason for numerous raids by the Turks. As a result of one of them, the monastery even temporarily became a barracks. After the destruction of 1862, only the bells of the XIV-XV centuries and the seal depicting the face of St. Nicholas remained from the old building. Already at the end of the XIX century, the Montenegrin prince Nicholas I Petrovich & ndash; Njegos built a new church with a large two-storey cell building, which, however, was again destroyed by the Second World War. Today the Vranjina monastery is a church with a rather non-standard decoration and design. Most of the outbuildings have yet to be restored.
