The building of the monastery is located in the valley of the river of the same name, in the central part of Montenegro. This place is one of the most significant medieval monuments of Orthodoxy in the entire Balkan Peninsula. It was founded in the XIII century, and was laid by the son of the Serbian prince Prince Vukan II Nemanjic - Stefan. A modern motorway from Podgorica to Kalashin leads to this place.

Some icons and masterfully executed frescoes on the walls have survived to this day. Particularly noteworthy are the fresco depicting the Virgin with Christ, the Annunciation, as well as the life of St. Elijah the Prophet.

The complex of monastic buildings includes a large Church of the Assumption of Our Lady, Church of St. Nicholas and a number of monastic cells.
