Monastery Chelia Piperska in Montenegro, Podgorica resort
Rating: 7,8/10 (5049 votes)  The monastery is located 17 km from the city of Podgorica, on a mountain plateau. Orthodox Christianity is professed in the monastery, and, accordingly, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The monastery was founded in the first half of the 17th century, and part of the name was given to it by the Monk Stephen of Pipersky, who had a great influence on the construction monastery. It all started with a modest church, a school building and a monastery kitchen. The 19th century became a time of active reconstruction of the building. The monastery acquired a narthex, a belfry, a dome and a cell building. Here, at the monastery, a school with a very extensive and rich library, known throughout Montenegro, was opened. The Second World War hardly damaged the monastery. At one time he managed to be exclusively female. The building also employs icon painters who teach their art to the younger generation. Inside the monastery, you can see the relics of Stephen Pipersky, imprisoned in a catholicon, an iconostasis with paintings of the nuns' own work.
