Lesendro Fortress in Montenegro
Rating: 7,8/10 (302 votes)  Fortress Lesendro is located on the shores of Lake Skadar, not far from the road to Podgorica. Before the construction of a dam on this site, the fortress was located on an island. It was built back in the 18th century and still reminds of the confrontation between Montenegro and Turkey. The fortress became a defense against Turkish raids during the reign of Peter II Petrovic Njegos. Yes, and he himself sometimes rested here and wrote some of his literary works. Today the fortress is half-abandoned, but it offers a beautiful panorama of Lake Skadar with the surrounding environs.
